Australian aboriginal art, like Dreamtime storytelling, connects the aborigine people with the land they dwell upon and the spirits that inhabit it.
Aborigine art, dot painting and pokerwork, is instantly recognisable by its use of traditional patterns and symbols. Almost all of them, relate to the land, and the animals and birds which share the continent of Australia with the aboriginal people.
Our workshops introduce primary students to the meaning of these patterns and symbols which the aboriginal people of Australia use to decorate almost any natural surface – as well as canvas, clapsticks, didgeridoos, drinking vessels and of course boomerangs.
